Sometimes it’s easy to find yourself lacking in productivity when at work. At times, from the mandatory eight hours we have to put in every day, we’re only getting things done during the first four. Alas, from the long list you’ve gathered, only a certain amount of items have been ticked. At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, “Is there a way to be more productive at work?” Well, of course, there is! It’s just a matter of finding the right balance.
Even if you’re not someone with an eight-hour shift, you might be putting in even more hours, or be a student struggling to balance between assignments, being a student and a side job to make extra money—here are a few ways you can opt to be more productive at work.
1. Do The Easy Things First
It’s only natural to be overwhelmed by the number of things we have to do every day, so the main thing is to minimize that list. In the morning, do the easier things first because that’s the best way to minimise your workload in a short amount of time.
Since you’ll be busy juggling between several tasks each day, getting the more straightforward stuff done first before moving on to the harder, more egregious ones. That being said, if you think doing heavier tasks will more solidify your focus in the morning, focus on getting most of the essential tasks done first.
2. Take Breaks
Don't force yourself to be hyper-focused during your work shift. Breaks are vital for you to refocus and recharge. It helps clear your mind from the overwhelming number of tasks that you have to do.
In addition to that, studies have shown that breaks can reduce or prevent stress, helps maintain your performance throughout the day and reduce the need for an overly long rest at the end of the day.
3. Set A Mini Schedule
A mini-schedule is like a different to-do list outside of your main schedule. As such, this acts more of a quick reminder for you to finish up a series of small tasks leading up to your main tasks. This way, your work is more organized, and you will be less stressed as a result.
Moreover, mini schedules make you more independent as you regularly put in your tasks.
